A 72-year-old man shot himself inside Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden on Wednesday and was in critical condition, officials said.

The man admitted himself about 8:10 a.m. and pulled a gun and shot himself in the head less than an hour later, hospital officials said.

He was in an emergency room treatment space where patients are separated by curtains. No one else was injured. The man was not identified. The hospital does not have metal detectors at its entrance.

It was the second such incident at the hospital in recent years. In August 2014, a 71-year-old man shot and killed himself after walking into a restroom of the emergency room waiting area.
