A Camden County grand jury has returned indictments for a Gloucester City woman and her boyfriend in the July sexual assault and death of the woman's 2-year-old daughter, authorities said Tuesday.
Michael Disporto, 22, of Manahawkin, Ocean County, was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree felony murder, and first-degree aggravated sexual assault. Amber Bobo, 26, was charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
The woman called 911 the evening of July 3 for her daughter, who was unresponsive, and the girl was taken by ambulance to Cooper University Hospital. She died two days later.
A medical examiner ruled her death a homicide caused by blunt-force trauma to the head.
Bobo told investigators that Disporto, whom she had been dating for two weeks, had spent time alone with her daughter, identified only as "A.S."
Bobo said she noticed bruises on the girl's forehead and later on her back and genitals. The girl later had two episodes of vomiting and finally lost consciousness.
Doctors found the girl had suffered bleeding in her brain, bruised genitals, a broken arm, and lung contusions.
