AC gang enforcer gets life in prison

An enforcer for a violent Atlantic City drug gang was sentenced Friday in federal court in Camden to life in prison, prosecutors said.

An enforcer for a violent Atlantic City drug gang was sentenced Friday in federal court in Camden to life in prison, prosecutors said.

Malik Derry, 25, also known as "Lik," was convicted after a six-week trial on charges related to his activities with the gang known as "Dirty Block." The gang, which was known by other names including "Crime Fam," was led by his brother, Mykal "Koose" Derry, 36.

Prosecutors said that between October 2010 and February 2013 the brothers and other members of the gang were responsible for at least eight drug-related shootings, including the murder of a rival dealer.

Malik Derry, on orders from his older brother, killed the rival by riding up to him on a bicycle and shooting him in the head outside a restaurant, prosecutors said.

At its height, Dirty Block was considered the predominant criminal street gang in Atlantic City, prosecutors said.

Evidence presented at the trial included hundreds of recorded telephone calls and text messages between the brothers and 19 other members of the gang.

Mykal Derry was sentenced in January to life in prison.

Both brothers still face murder charges.
