A registered sex offender from New York was arrested after driving from Syracuse to Camden County to have sex with a 14-year-old girl who turned out to be undercover agents posing as the teen, prosecutors said Friday.

Stephen Epolito, 37, engaged in online chats with the nonexistent girl and was arrested Thursday after arriving in Gloucester City to meet her, prosecutors said.

Epolito was charged with attempting to lure a child by electronic means and was being held in the Camden County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. In 2001, he was convicted in New York of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl, state records show.
