Two Atlantic City firefighters were arrested last week after allegedly buying fake heroin from an undercover detective, authorities said.

Eric Funk, 39, and Matthew Doherty, 33, would be suspended, said the Atlantic City Fire Chief Scott Evans, who said he was unaware of the arrest until Thursday.

The state police got a tip the men were buying heroin near the fire station and set up a sting. Funk was in uniform when he allegedly paid $20 for the fake heroin. Doherty, who was not in uniform, allegedly exchanged a watch for the fake heroin because he did not have enough cash. Funk also was allegedly in possession of a hypodermic needle and other drug paraphernalia.

Both men were released without bail.
