S. Jersey man gets 10 years for possessing child porn

A South Jersey man was sentenced on Tuesday to serve 10 years in federal prison for possession of sexually explicit photographs and videos of children.

A South Jersey man was sentenced on Tuesday to serve 10 years in federal prison for possession of sexually explicit photographs and videos of children.

Jeffrey Spicer, 45, of West Wildwood, appeared in U.S. District Court in Camden accused of downloading the pornography on his home computer, cellphone, and a thumb drive that authorities found while executing a warrant in 2014.

When authorities served the warrant, Spicer told them he downloaded and received emails from unknown people that contained the pornography, according to court records. He also reportedly told investigators that he normally deleted the images after looking at them.

Authorities, however, found an app on Spicer's phone, called "Keepsafe," which contained screen shots of pornography from social media websites, including Instagram, according to an indictment filed in 2014.

The indictment included explicit descriptions of images of young boys who were nude or engaged in sexual activities, and one of four boys showering together.

Investigators found more than 100 pornographic pictures and two videos on the same phone, 34 videos on a thumb drive, and another video and 200 pictures on a home computer.

In May of 2015, Spicer pleaded guilty to a single count of possession of child pornography as part of an agreement with federal prosecutors. In exchange for the guilty plea, authorities agreed not to prosecute Spicer for other pictures found in his home on the day the warrant was served.

Had he not entered a plea, Spicer was facing a potential 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

According to court records, Spicer previously was convicted in connection with aggravated sexual abuse or abusive sexual contact involving a minor and is listed in Delaware's sex-offender registry.

On Tuesday, Spicer appeared for sentencing before U.S. District Judge Jerome B. Simandle. In addition to 10 years in federal prison, Simandle ordered 10 years of supervision upon his release from prison, and to pay $7,200 in restitution.
