Police: Burlco woman faces charges in fatal hit-and-run

A 40-year-old Burlington County woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run Monday night that killed a 16-year-old boy on Route 130 in Pennsauken, police said.

A 40-year-old Burlington County woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run Monday night that killed a 16-year-old boy on Route 130 in Pennsauken, police said.

Susan Hyland, of Beverly, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license.

About 11:20 p.m. Monday, Hyland was driving south on Route 130, just past Browning Road, when she hit a young male crossing the road, Pennsauken Police Capt. Thomas Connor said.

The victim, Quason Turner, was a Pennsauken High School student, Police Sgt. Chris Sulzbach said.

Sulzbach said the teen had been at a friend's house and was walking home when he was struck. He crossed the northbound lanes of Route 130, jumped over the median, and was in the southbound lanes when he was hit. The impact threw him into a nearby Burger King parking lot, Sulzbach said.

Sulzbach said Hyland, who was driving a Toyota Corolla, drove off. The car belonged to her 19-year-old niece, Brianne Folk, who was a passenger in the car, Sulzbach said.

He said Hyland saw Turner in the road, but "she saw him too late."

Turner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hyland and her niece were traveling from Beverly to Camden to visit a friend of Hyland's at the time of the accident, Sulzbach said.

After the crash, the niece called 911 to report it, but then hung up, police said.

Police later found the Toyota at 29th and Clinton Streets in Camden. Hyland tried running out the back of her friend's house but was caught by officers, Sulzbach said.

Hyland was being held on $200,000 bail and was expected to be transferred to the Camden County jail by Tuesday evening, Sulzbach said.

He said Turner's family and a vice principal at Pennsauken High were notified of the accident. He said students were off from school this week because of the spring break.

Turner's mother, La-Tisha Turner, said Tuesday that her son, the middle of three children, was a sophomore at Pennsauken High.

She said Hyland would "get her justice in court, and God will handle everything."
