Police in Camden are seeking two men seen on surveillance video heading south through the North Sixth Street pedestrian tunnel beneath the Benjamin Franklin Bridge about 11 p.m. Friday - soon after Johnathan Simmons, 19, was fatally shot behind the Northgate I apartment tower a block away.

Police responding to a reported shooting arrived at Northgate at 11:25 and found Simmons lying on the ground. He was taken to Cooper University Hospital and pronounced dead at 11:44.

Two men were seen fleeing the scene, police said.

The video from a Delaware River Port Authority surveillance camera shows a pair of heavyset African American men moving through the tunnel away from the apartments. One is holding a bag.

The men walk in the first part of the video. They break into a jog as they reach the south end of the tunnel, heading out toward Penn Street and the Rutgers University-Camden campus.

Andy McNeil, spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, said officers are asking for the public's help in identifying the men. The video is posted at www.CamdenCountyPros.org and on YouTube at https://youtu.be/CeuIdykAUX0.

One of the men in the video is wearing a lightweight, striped Hollister hooded sweatshirt, light-colored shorts, and a soft "boonie" hat with a brim all around.

The other is wearing a black shirt with a Nike logo on the chest, light pants, and a dark baseball cap.

The authorities asked anyone with information on the shooting or about the men in the video to call Camden County Prosecutor's Office Detective Frank Simpson at 856-365-3114 or Camden County Police Detective Sal Webb at 856-757-7420; or to email ccpotips@ccprosecutor.org.
