Fire on the Ocean City boardwalk caused undetermined damage to a surf shop Saturday night, just one week before Memorial Day weekend - the official start of high season at the Jersey Shore.

The two-alarm blaze began around 8 p.m. inside 7th Street Surf Shop, at 654 Boardwalk, officials said. As smoke poured out of the storefront, locals gathered to take photos.

The fire has been extinguished, an emergency dispatcher said. Its cause was not immediately known.

The shop sells and rents surfing equipment and offers lessons.
