A fox from Mount Laurel has tested positive for rabies, officials said Thursday.

The fox had been living in the area of Burry Port Way in The Lakes development in the township, the Burlington County Health Department said.

It did not say how the animal came into its possession, but that it was submitted for testing on April 17 and the results came back positive.

The department said it was concerned that some residents or their pets may have come in contact with the fox.

It asked anyone who has been scratched or bitten by a wild animal or stray pet in the past month, or whose pets might have been scratched or bitten, to call the Communicable Disease Division at (609) 265-5533.
