Camden man seeks damages for 2008 arrest

A Camden man who says he was wrongfully charged with murder in 2008 is suing the Camden authorities who investigated the case.

Milton Kazar, 29 at the time he was arrested, filed the lawsuit in federal court Friday. Authorities charged him on Jan. 18, 2008, in the murder of Luis Rolon, who was killed two days earlier in a home invasion.

The suit, which seeks more than $1 million in damages, lists the city of Camden and the Camden County Prosecutor's Office as defendants. It alleges that investigators with the city police department - which was dissolved in 2013 to create the current county-run force - arrested Kazar with no evidence and tried to force a confession out of him.

Kazar spent four days in jail. Authorities dropped the charges against him. No one has since been charged in the case.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office declined to comment citing the litigation. A Camden city spokesman did not respond to a call Tuesday evening.
