Fire closes Mount Laurel Wegmans store

The Wegmans store in Mount Laurel was closed Sunday as employees worked to clean up damage from an electrical fire that broke out just after the store closed at midnight.

Jo Natale, a spokeswoman for Wegmans, said the fire occurred in a refrigerated display case in the produce department at the store on Centerton Road. There were no injuries and damage was limited to the immediate area, she said, adding that the Mount Laurel and Moorestown fire departments quickly responded to the blaze.

"We are grateful that there were no injuries and that the fire was quickly extinguished," she said.

All affected food and other products will be discarded, with the store expected to reopen no later than Wednesday, Natale said.

The company did not yet know what caused the fire.
