A 14-year-old boy on a bicycle was fatally injured Thursday morning when he veered into the path of a car in West Deptford, police said.

Despite the efforts of a passing registered nurse and an ambulance crew, the boy died at 8:11 a.m. at Inspira Hospital in Woodbury, police said.

The teenager, whose name was not immediately released, was riding westbound on Parkville Station Road about 7:15 a.m. when he veered into the path of an eastbound Toyota, police said. He was not wearing a helmet.

The female driver of the car stayed at the scene and police said that based on a preliminary investigation cellphone use, alcohol or drugs did not appear to be factors in the crash.

The investigation is continuing and no charges have been filed.
