A bear making its presence known throughout South Jersey paid its most recent visit to a Westampton neighborhood Wednesday evening.

The town's police department reported on social media that the animal arrived on Lancaster Court. "Please do not approach him," the department wrote on Facebook.

Burlington County dispatch said that the bear was spotted just after 5:30 p.m. in the area near the Tarnsfield Swim Club and that police were at the scene. In recent days, there have been bear sightings in Evesham and Mount Laurel, as well as in Camden, Bucks, and Montgomery Counties.

A spokesman for New Jersey's Department of Environmental Protection told The Inquirer last week that officials do not go after bears unless there is a dangerous or emergency situation. Residents are not to feed bears, per state law, and are advised to keep their distance. - Angelo Fichera
