Teen trying to board school bus hit by car

VOORHEES A teen was struck by a car shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday morning as he crossed the street to board a school bus.

Police say the 17-year-old male, a Voorhees resident, was crossing Cooper Road near Robin Lane, when a Lexus operated by a township man hit the Camden County Technical School student.

The student suffered an internal head injury, and police reported he was in "critical but stable" condition.

The bus had its stop sign extended and its lights on, according to authorities. Police said it appeared the driver was following the speed limit.

The 80-year-old driver, William Hoffman, was charged with improper passing of a school bus and careless driving. His driving privileges must also be reevaluated, authorities said.
