Twins found alive in NJ apartment with dead mother

PLAINFIELD, N.J. - Authorities say 3-month-old twins have been found alive in a northern New Jersey apartment with the body of their mother who is believed to have been dead for days.

Plainfield Police Lt. Kevin O'Brien says the discovery was made Wednesday by police responding to a request from a relative concerned that he hadn't heard from the woman for a few days.

Police say they found the body of 39-year-old Alice M. Jackson dead on her bed in her Plainfield apartment. An autopsy is pending but police say Jackson appears to have died from natural causes.

The infants were found responsive but dehydrated. They remain hospitalized in stable condition.

The discovery comes a week after police in nearby Union discovered a malnourished toddler chain-locked inside an apartment with his dead mother.
