Man burned in fire was smoking while using oxygen
SOMERVILLE, N.J. - Authorities say an elderly New Jersey man was seriously burned in a fire that started because he was smoking while breathing from an oxygen tank.
The 69-year-old Somerville man suffered burns on his face and hands in the fire, which broke out just before 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The man was able to flee the flames and was soon flown via state police helicopter to a hospital, but further details on his condition were not disclosed.
No other injuries were reported in the fire, which severely damaged the two-story home. Several people apparently were in the home when the fire started, but witnesses say that they got out safely.
