The body of a 79-year-old Browns Mills man who had been shot to death was found Saturday morning inside his home, Burlington County officials said.

The victim was identified as Valpa C. Rosa Sr., of the 100 block of Margaret Street.

Officials said police were summoned about 8:45 a.m. and found Rosa dead of gunshot wounds to the neck and head. Investigators provided few details, but spokesman Joel Bewley said Saturday night, "It was not a home invasion."

A weapon was recovered in the house, and it was believed to be the one used to kill Rosa. Investigators had not yet determined when Rosa was shot.

Detectives from the Pemberton Township Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit were investigating.

No arrests had been made as of late Saturday night. Officials said an autopsy would be performed by Burlington County Medical Examiner Ian Hood.
