N.J. governor calls for new budget trims

TRENTON - Gov. Corzine directed members of his cabinet yesterday to come up with $400 million in additional savings options as he struggles to keep the state budget in balance.

Corzine told department heads to submit reports to the state treasurer by Dec. 1. He also ordered them to maintain a hiring freeze and strict restrictions on travel.

State revenue collections last month came in below targets and may continue to erode, he said.

Corzine also called on state lawmakers to refrain from passing bills that would result in added spending during the forthcoming lame-duck legislative session.

Corzine lost his reelection bid on Tuesday amid voter discontent over high taxes and the sagging economy.

Corzine will move to NYC or CT within the week he leaves office and get another cushy high paying Wall Street job and try to enter politics in those states.
