MOUNT HOLLY - New Jersey's SPCA awaits results of a necropsy as it investigates how a Burlington County police dog died in a vehicle.
Patton was a 5-year-old explosive-detecting golden retriever assigned to the Mount Holly Police Department about three years ago. The dog also was on a state police task force.
Police Chief Steven Martin says the dog died in a vehicle, but how long he was there and how he died were not clear. It's also not clear whether it was a police vehicle.
SPCA spokesman Matt Stanton said the police department asked his agency to look into the death. - AP
