SAUDI ARABIA

Help sought on deadly illness

Saudi Arabia said it was consulting global experts on how to combat a deadly respiratory virus, as a case was reported in Jordan.

Specialists from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States are helping tackle the outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome, or MERS, Assistant Deputy Minister of Health Mohammed Zamakhshary said.

At least 93 people have died of the disease, believed transmitted to humans via animals, since it emerged in Saudi Arabia in 2012, the World Health Organization said. The virus has also been reported in Southeast Asia, killing a Malaysian who visited Saudi Arabia.
