Prelate asks prayer

for Cuban dissident

Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski has asked that Masses at the Our Lady of Charity shrine say special prayers this weekend for Cuban dissident Sonia Garro and two others jailed without trial since shortly before a papal mass in Havana in 2012.

"Please know that this family will be in my prayers - and that I have asked that this prayer of petition be included in the prayers offered at La Ermita de la Caridad this weekend" in Coconut Grove, Fla., Wenski wrote in an e-mail.

Garro, a member of the Ladies in White; her husband, Ramon Alejandro Muñoz; and activist Eugenio Hernandez were arrested at the couple's home in a poor Havana neighborhood March 18, 2012, as they made plans to attend Pope Benedict XVI's mass, dissidents say. - Miami Herald

Blast ruled accidental A preliminary investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has determined that a deadly explosion at a Tennessee ammunition plant was accidental. ATF spokesman Michael Knight said it will now be up to the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration to determine fault and whether there were any safety violations at the McEwen, Tenn, plant.

Injured owl released

A rare snowy owl that was apparently hit by a bus in the nation's capital flew back

into the wild on Saturday, after weeks of rehab in Minnesota and procedures to replace its flight feathers. Officials with the Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota released the owl about noon Saturday outside Superior, Wis. - AP
