Morey's Piers, Hershey Park shut down similar rides following Ohio fatality
The closures are precautions until more is known about why the Ohio thrill ride malfunctioned.
Morey's Piers on the Wildwood boardwalk and Hershey Park have shut down rides similar to one that broke apart this week at the Ohio State Fair, killing an 18-year-old man and seriously injuring seven other riders who were flung from the spinning and swinging thrill ride.
The ride at Morey's is called "it"; at Hershey Park, it's known as "the Claw."
In a post on its Facebook page, Morey's said: "Due to this horrible tragedy 'it' is going to be shut down for a couple of weeks. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims."
A New Jersey inspector Wednesday night shut down a ride also called "the Claw" at the Monmouth County Fair in Freehold after learning about the fatal incident involving the ride called the "Fire Ball" at the Ohio fair, the Atlantic City Press reported.
PennLive reported that Hershey Park has not had problems with "the Claw" but decided to temporarily close the ride until more information about what happened in Ohio becomes available.
