Mobster scammer who bilked Bolaris gets 3 years in prison
The leader of a Russian-mob-connected scam that bilked John Bolaris out of thousands of dollars is going to prison.
Admitted Russian mobster Alec Simchuk was sentenced Friday in federal court in Miami, the Miami Herald reports.
Simchuk brought attractive Eastern European "bar girls" to South Beach to scam men at clubs. The fraud cost well-known local ex-weatherman Bolaris $43,000.
Bolaris and others were swindled by the "B girls" in spring 2010. The women plied men with booze and scammed them by charging massive sums on their credit cards.
Prosecutors say Simchuk was the leader of the scheme.
Last month, Bolaris appeared on "Dr. Phil" to recount the fraud and losing his job at Fox 29 and his credibility in its aftermath.
Also last month, three other people connected to the scam were convicted in Miami's federal court.
