Police: Mistaken identity leads to fatal shooting

A 43-year-old Philadelphia man was shot and killed early Saturday morning after making the mistake of getting into the wrong car, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was waiting for a friend outside a Sunoco station on Adams Ave. in Northeast Philadelphia just after 5 a.m. when a car pulled up to the station.

Believing his friend had arrived, the man walked to the car and opened the passenger door, police said. The driver, fearing that he was about to be robbed, pulled out a handgun and fired, they said.

The man was pronounced dead at 6:10 a.m. Police did not release the name of the driver. An investigation is continuing.
