FBI: Serial bank robber tries to strike again in Philadelphia

Law enforcement officials say a serial bank robber struck again this morning, and has now hit up four Philadelphia banks and tried to rob two others this month.

The most recent attempted heist occurred about 11 a.m. today, when the suspect tried to rob the Wells Fargo branch located at 1575 N. 52nd St. in Parkside, the FBI said.

All of the incidents have involved different branches, spread across the city.

In each case, the robber has entered the bank and given a teller a threatening note, the FBI said. After obtaining cash, the suspect flees on foot.

The man hasn't displayed a weapon in any of the incidents.

Other heists this week occurred at the PNC Bank located at 5900 N. Broad St. in Ogontz and the Prudential Savings Bank at 1722 S. Broad St. in Point Breeze, according to the FBI.

Earlier robberies occurred on Dec. 15 at the PNC Bank at 230 S. Broad St. in Center City and on Dec. 18 at the Valley Green Bank at 7226 Germantown Avenue in West Mount Airy.

The string of incidents began with the Dec. 11 attempted robbery of the Beneficial Bank at 1600 Chestnut Street in Center City, officials said.

The FBI described the suspect as a black man in his 30s who is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and has a medium build and medium complexion. He has worn glasses in all but one of the robberies.
