ACME market to open at former ShopRite site in South Philadelphia

The former ShopRite store in the Snyder Plaza shopping center in South Philadelphia's Pennsport neighborhood will be gutted and renovated to accommodate a new Acme supermarket.

Slated to open in summer 2017, the new ACME will incorporate a Starbucks cafe, as well as a beer and wine shop, according to a statement Thursday from the supermarket chain and the Goldenberg Group, which owns the property.

The 54,415-square-foot retail space has been vacant since late summer, when ShopRite relocated to a bigger store on Oregon Avenue formerly occupied by a Pathmark. The space will be renovated with an updated facade and new points of entry, Goldenberg spokesman Bryan Evans said in an interview.
