A police officer was hit by a car Sunday while directing traffic in Northeast Philadelphia.

A police officer was hit by a car Sunday while directing traffic in Northeast Philadelphia.

The officer was on duty in Rhawnhurst just before 11:30 a.m. when an 89-year-old woman driving on Large Street went around police vehicles that were stopping traffic and hit her, police said.

The officer, who is assigned to the Second District, was taken to Aria-Jefferson Health Torresdale Hospital in stable condition, police said. Additional details were not available.
