Police in Montgomery County are searching for a man who left behind an 11-year-old boy at a West Norriton Walmart store last week after trying to shoplift tools from the store.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. March 17, the man was seen putting tools in empty Walmart bags that he had in a shopping cart while in the store, at 650 S. Trooper Road, Police Chief Dale Mabry said Thursday.

The man, who was with the 11-year-old boy, tried to leave the store without paying for the tools, but was stopped by a loss-prevention officer, Mabry said.

The man fled to a silver four-door sedan with New Jersey license plates, and drove off, the police chief said.

He left behind the tools and the boy, who Mabry said was an acquaintance.

The boy was reunited with his mother the same day, Mabry said.

Mabry said police are looking for the man, described as Hispanic, about 5-foot-5, 190 pounds and 30 to 40 years old.

Anyone with information should contact the police department at 610-630-1701.
