Big show of support for nun accused of DUI

If the students of Sister Kimberly Miller have their say, she'll be back at work in no time.

Miller, a theology teacher at Little Flower High School for Girls, on Lycoming Street near 10th in Hunting Park, was arrested about 3 a.m. on Nov. 7.

She was charged with DUI after allegedly backing a pickup truck into a Meineke auto-repair shop in Turnersville, Gloucester County, and failing a field sobriety test, police said.

Miller was placed on administrative leave Wednesday, after her arrest was publicized throughout the region. Ken Gavin, a spokesman for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, stressed last night that Miller hasn't been fired and that her classes have been covered as the Archdiocese investigates the matter.

In the meantime, hundreds of former and current students signed an online petition calling for her reinstatement.

"Her wisdom and love has helped many of her students get through the most difficult times of high school," the petition, titled "Save Sr. Kim's job," says. "In light of recent events, all of the positive things she has done should not be overshadowed by one negative wrongdoing."

The petition's goal of 1,000 signatures was met within hours of its posting Thursday - as of last night, nearly 1,800 people had signed it.

Sister Donna Shallo, Little Flower's president, did not return a request for comment last night, and Miller couldn't be reached.

Before joining Little Flower's faculty, Miller, a native of Northeast Philly, taught at Marian Catholic High School in Tamaqua, Schuylkill County.

Man slain in early-morning shooting

An unidentified man was gunned down just before 2:30 a.m. yesterday, police said.

Officers responding to reports of a gunman in Southwest Philly found the victim laying on Centaur Place near 78th Street, shot several times in his face and body.

Medics pronounced him dead at the scene minutes later, police said. Investigators were still working last night to identify him.

There was no information last night on a motive or suspect. Tipsters should call 215-686-8477.

Montco man charged with stabbing roommate

A Cheltenham man is accused of brutally stabbing his roommate during a heated argument Wednesday, police said last night.

Joo Yul Choi, 45, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and related offenses after the stabbing inside his home on Davis Road near Foster.

Officers found Choi's roommate suffering from several stab wounds to his torso about 2:20 a.m. They took him to Einstein Medical Center, where he remained last night in stable condition.

Choi, who was also home at the time, was initially taken to Abington Memorial Hospital for evaluation, but was arrested after investigators determined his alleged role in the attack.
