A man carjacked a vehicle with two women inside after he was stopped by police in South Philadelphia overnight.

The wild incident began when officers tried to pull over the male driver on the 1900 block of South Camac Street, according to police.

The suspect crashed his vehicle into several parked cars, then got out of the car and ran into a nearby Nissan.

He took off, with two women in the car's back seat, police said.

The suspect eventually ditched the car at 5th and Shunk streets and ran away on foot.

He was last seen fleeing southbound on 5th Street, according to police radio reports.

Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters at the scene that the suspect left behind an inmate identification card that matched the description of the person officers had originally tried to stop.

The suspect wasn't immediately identified.
