A 27-year-old Sharon Hill woman surrendered to Philadelphia police Wednesday for her alleged involvement in an April hit-and-run in Kingsessing that left a 4-year-old boy dead.

Shanika Mason, 27, was charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and leaving the scene of an accident involving death, said Capt. John Wilczynski of the Accident Investigation District.

Mason is accused of striking 4-year-old Abdul Wilson twice on the 1600 block of South 57th Street on April 13 with a black SUV and fleeing the scene. After the crash, police said they did not believe the car was speeding when it struck the boy, who had slipped between parked cars and darted into the road.

The District Attorney's Office issued a warrant for Mason's arrest Tuesday, and she turned herself in late Wednesday morning alongside an attorney, Wilczynski said.

She was awaiting arraignment Wednesday night. Officials were requesting $200,000 bail, Wilczynski said.
