An unidentified man was in very critical condition after being shot in the chest Monday night in West Philadelphia, police said.

About 8:40 p.m., police were called to the 5700 block of Hazel Street, where they found the man, who appeared to be in his 20s, lying unconscious in the street, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Police took the victim to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. The shooter, also a young man, was last seen fleeing west on Hazel in a gold older-model Chevrolet Impala. Police were checking private surveillance cameras in the area for possible video of the crime, Small said. - Robert Moran
