How does your grocery store stack up?

In Consumer Reports' latest supermarket survey, Wegmans was shoppers' favorite grocery store for the second year in a row, while Acme, Pathmark and Walmart ranked near the bottom of the list.

The results, which appear in the May issue of the magazine, are based on nearly 63,000 responses that reflect about 111,200 shopping trips readers took between March 2013 and July 2014.

Wegmans was the top-ranked store, with an overall reader rating of 90 out of 100. It also was No. 1 in last year's survey.

Scores were based on the quality and freshness of produce, meat, bakery items and store-prepared food, as well as staff courtesy and store cleanliness.

The Rochester-based, family-owned Wegmans operates 84 stores in six states. More than half of the popular chain's stores are located in New York, followed by 16 in Pennsylvania and seven in New Jersey.

Here's where other supermarkets operating in the Philadelphia region ranked in the latest Consumer Reports survey, which included results for 68 grocery stores (overall scores are in parenthesis):

3. Trader Joe's (87)

6. Costco (84)

9. The Fresh Market (83)

14. Aldi (81)

15. Whole Foods Market (81)

26. ShopRite (78)

39. Giant - Pennsylvania locations (76)

42. BJ's Wholesale Club (76)

45. Target/SuperTarget (75)

47. Sam's Club (74)

61. Acme (70)

65. Pathmark (66)

67. Walmart Supercenter (64)

Wegmans was the highest-rated store for fresh produce, meat and poultry, as well as earning top marks for its cleanliness and bakery.

"It's going to sound cliché, but our employees are our secret sauce," Jo Natale, Wegmans' vice president of media relations, told Consumer Reports.

Whole Foods also earned high marks for freshness, while shoppers said Trader Joe's was cheapest for organics.

Wegmans, Costco and Whole Foods also earned high marks for their prepared foods.
