Valley Forge tourism chief stepping down for hotel job

VALLEY FORGE Bill Fitzgerald, president of the Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board, is stepping down this month to take a job in the hotel industry.

In a statement, board chairman Michael S. Bowman praised Fitzgerald's "strategic thinking, planning and overall creativity," and said the board will immediately begin a search for a replacement who can "continue that momentum."

Since Fitzgerald took over in 2013, the board has ramped up its marketing campaigns to bring attention and new business to Montgomery County and the Valley Forge area. And it hopes to welcome an influx of travelers for the World Meeting of Families this fall and the Democratic National Convention in 2016.

Fitzgerald is moving to the Hilton Philadelphia hotel at Penn's Landing, where he will serve as a vice president/managing director, the statement said. - Jessica Parks
