After singing her heart out, Julia Rae Schlucter of Wayne was crowned Miss Philadelphia late Saturday to mark the pageant's 94th anniversary.
Schlucter, 22, a senior at Fordham University, will graduate in about three months.
Her platform at Saturday's pageant at the city's Kurtz Center for Performing Arts at the William Penn Charter School was singing at the "Top of My Lungs." She beat out 13 other contestants from Philadelphia and Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties.
As the new Miss Philadelphia, Schlucter is expected to make upward of 100 public appearances to promote her service platform and sponsors during her 12-month reign.
The Miss Philadelphia Scholarship Organization started in 1921 as part of the Miss America Organization, which remains the largest provider of college scholarship money to women.
It provided $20,000 in scholarships in 2014, including $10,000 to the former Miss Philadelphia, Diamond Edmonds.
The organization's rules allow contestants who "[l]ive, work full-time, or go to school full-time in Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, Chester, or Philadelphia County for at least 6 months."
