Snyder to step down as treasurer

DOYLESTOWN Bucks County Treasurer William Snyder said Wednesday that he will retire at the end of this year after serving in the position since 1980. That means Snyder, who will turn 86 on Sunday, will not seek reelection this fall.

"I guess I could have retired a couple elections ago," the Republican said Wednesday. "But I decided I didn't have anything else I wanted to do. And I won the elections. So, I continued on."

The treasurer's office oversees the county's finances as well as licenses for fishing and hunting. Tom Panzer, a former Warminster supervisor and Republican, is the only person who has said he will run for the position this year.

"I've enjoyed all the time I've been here," Snyder added. "I've had a good staff, a lot of good people who work here. It's been wonderful for me." - Ben Finley
