NORRISTOWN Three Montgomery County Court judges were appointed Thursday to run the Election Board for the 2015 election cycle.

The board is usually led by the three county commissioners. But since all three are running for office this year, state law requires that replacements be appointed.

The county's presiding judge appointed Orphans' Court Judges Stanley R. Ott and Lois E. Murphy and civil court Judge Richard P. Haaz to lead the election board through the November election.

Ott, 65, a Republican, is retiring from the bench at the end of this year. Murphy, 51, a Democrat, will not be up for retention until 2019. Haaz, 61, a Democrat, will not be up for retention until 2021.

The county's two Democratic commissioners, Josh Shapiro and Val Arkoosh, are running to retain their seats. Republican Commissioner Bruce L. Castor Jr. is running for district attorney. - Jessica Parks
