New athletics facility at Villanova

RADNOR Villanova University plans to begin work this summer on a new athletics facility, replacing an outdated annex building next to its football stadium.

"This is really a way for us to support our current student athletes," said Chris Kovolski, Villanova's assistant vice president for government relations and external affairs.

The university's athletic facilities are inadequate compared with other colleges and even some nearby high schools, Kovolski said.

The Radnor Township Board of Commissioners approved preliminary plans for the $15 million project this week.

The building's training and exercise areas would be used primarily by the Villanova football team, Kovolski said, and its opening would allow other teams to have more space in current athletic facilities.

If the township approves final plans this spring, Kovolski said, the university will begin work in June. - Laura McCrystal
