Former Walter Palmer teacher sues for pay

A former staffer at the shuttered Walter D. Palmer Leadership Learning Partners Charter School has filed a class-action suit against the charter and its officials, seeking payment for work performed in November and December.

A former staffer at the shuttered Walter D. Palmer Leadership Learning Partners Charter School has filed a class-action suit against the charter and its officials, seeking payment for work performed in November and December.

The complaint was filed in Common Pleas Court on Monday by David Hardrick, a former administrator. The action seeks money that staffers say they are owed for the school's last two months of operations, as well as for accrued time off.

The Northern Liberties school had been in the middle of charter-revocation proceedings when it announced it would close Dec. 31 because it faced insurmountable financial obstacles.

The abrupt closure disrupted staff and sent 675 students from grades K-8 scrambling to find new schools.

On Jan. 15, the Philadelphia School Reform Commission voted to revoke the school charter on financial grounds and for poor academic performance.
