AR-15 used in stickup of North Phila. convenience store

Philadelphia police were searching for a masked robber who aimed an AR-15-style rifle at a convenience-store employee during a stickup.

Philadelphia police were searching for a masked robber who aimed an AR-15-style rifle at a convenience-store employee during a stickup.

Police said two men entered the Clearfield Food Market, 2442 Clearfield St. in North Philadelphia, last Thursday around 8:40 p.m., and one pointed the rifle at an employee, demanding money. The employee complied.

The men fled on foot with $500. No one was injured.

The suspects were caught on surveillance video released this week by police, which shows the gunman pointing the rifle one-handed at a man behind the counter as his accomplice takes the cash.

Police described the gunman as a African American, about 19 to 20 years old, with a thin build, standing 5 feet 11 inches tall, and wearing a black ski mask, an orange hooded sweatshirt, black jacket, and tan pants. They described his accomplice black, about 19 to 20 years old, of medium build, about 6 feet tall and wearing a black ski mask and dark clothing.

Police said anyone with information on the incident should call the department tip line at 215-686-TIPS or Northwest Detectives at 215-686-3353. All tips will be confidential.
