Multiple vehicles hit pedestrian, leave scene

A pedestrian died Thursday evening after he was struck by multiple vehicles - all of which left the scene - on Interstate 495 in northern Delaware, police said.

A pedestrian died Thursday evening after he was struck by multiple vehicles - all of which left the scene - on Interstate 495 in northern Delaware, police said.

Delaware State Police said the man was trying to cross the northbound lanes of the interstate near Edgemoor Road in Edgemoor, New Castle County, when he was struck shortly before 8 p.m.

Police said the man, who has not been identified, was first hit by a vehicle that was northbound on I-495.

The pedestrian was knocked to the ground and then struck by several other vehicles, police said.

Officials said none of the striking vehicles remained at the scene. The models of the vehicles weren't known.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
