Events scheduled for King's birthday

CHESTER Events throughout and near Chester will mark Martin Luther King's Birthday on Monday.

Volunteers will participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at Chester Upland School District schools by painting, organizing libraries, and helping with general maintenance. Volunteers will work at one of the six schools Monday morning.

Also Monday morning, the S.T.E.M. Academy at Showalter will host a welcome event, family activities, and health fair.

At 1 p.m., a wreath-laying ceremony is scheduled at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland. King studied at the former Crozer Theological Seminary from 1948 to 1951.

Widener University will host an event reflecting on King's life at 6:30 p.m. in the Alumni Auditorium.
