MONTGOMERYVILLE The Montgomery Township finance department was recognized by the Board of Supervisors at its meeting Monday for receiving a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in financial reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association.

It is the fourth consecutive year that the department has received the award.

"It really takes a lot of work, and you have to do a really great job to get this certificate," Board Chairman Joe Walsh said.

The certificate is given to local governments that go beyond the minimum requirements of

generally accepted accounting principles. According to the association, the certificate is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The nonprofit association serves about 17,500 government finance professionals and has offices in Chicago and Washington. - Inquirer staff
