Police officers funded for schools

WEST CHESTER The Oxford Area and Kennett Consolidated School Districts have won $50,000 in grants in the state's second round of school security funding, Gov. Corbett announced last week.

Kennett Consolidated will receive $30,000 for a school resource officer assigned by the Kennett Square Police Department. Oxford Area will get $20,000 for a school police officer.

The grant program was created in 2013 to give funding to schools for officers.

"As I've said before, students must feel secure if they are to learn and achieve to their highest potential," State Sen. Andy Dinniman (D., Chester) said in a statement. "This program and the officers it funds help provide an environment that is conducive to learning and growth."
