Improvements slated for three intermodal transportation sites

WEST CHESTER Three intermodal transportation centers in Chester County will get more than $2.6 million in state funding, State Sen. Andy Dinniman (D., Chester) announced last week.

Multimodal Transportation Fund grants totaling $84 million will support 86 projects to improve safety and mobility in 35 counties. The money comes through Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation funding law passed in 2013.

"We are already seeing road improvement and repaving projects, and such investments in transportation will continue play a major role in creating jobs, boosting our economy and maintaining a high quality of life in our region," Dinniman said in a statement.

New Garden Township will get $979,431 for improvements at the New Garden Flying Field, an airport in Toughkenamon.

Malvern Borough will receive $160,000 for a project meant to improve pedestrian access for riders at the SEPTA Regional Rail Station, including upgrading traffic signals, and installing sidewalks and overhead street signs.

A retail company, Urban Outfitters Inc., will get $1.5 million to convert vacant property in Devon near a SEPTA station into a a shopping center with restaurants, a wellness facility or exercise studio space, and a resort. The property is along Route 30. The project includes installing left-turn lanes, lighting, crosswalks, and sidewalks.
