Chesco traffic control upgrades get funding

WEST CHESTER Four municipalities in Chester County will receive a total of more than $421,000 in state aid for traffic control upgrades, State Sen. Andy Dinniman (D., Chester) announced last month.

WEST CHESTER Four municipalities in Chester County will receive a total of more than $421,000 in state aid for traffic control upgrades, State Sen. Andy Dinniman (D., Chester) announced last month.

The grants come from $6.6 million in statewide funding collected through fines from red-light cameras at 28 intersections in Philadelphia. The state distributes the money to Philadelphia and the rest of the state for projects that improve safety, reduce traffic, and improve mobility.

Caln Township received $290,083 in grants to add signals to the synchronized system on Reeceville Road and Route 322.

East Whiteland Township got $73,500 to upgrade the signal, testing, and monitoring ability of its 35 traffic signals.

Easttown Township received $49,000 to install LED traffic and pedestrian signals at eight intersections.

Oxford Borough got $8,500 to install LED traffic signals at the intersection of South Third Street and Hodgson Street.

"The improvements mean a safer and smoother commute for motorists throughout our region," Dinniman said in a statement.

The state has distributed almost $40 million for such projects since the red-light camera funding program was established in 2010.
