Neshaminy principal addresses posts

LANGHORNE Neshaminy High School's principal sent an e-mail to parents this week urging them to check their children's smartphones after inappropriate messages were apparently directed toward students via the app Yik Yak.

The app allows users to create and share posts anonymously, and numerous schools nationwide have run into issues with students using it.

Principal Rob McGee said the inappropriate messages at Neshaminy appeared to have originated from within the school community.

District spokesman Chris Stanley did not elaborate on the messages but said he did not believe they contained any threats or criminal behavior.

McGee, in his e-mail, said students had been reminded to use cellphones appropriately.

He also provided instructions to help reduce the possibility of inappropriate posts. For example, look for the Yik Yak app on the phone, then click "me" to see whether the owner has posted anything.

If the post is inappropriate, click on it, then click "flag" in the upper right corner. Once a second person flags the post, it will be removed.
