Restoration projects get state funding

Municipal park, trail network, and stream bank restoration projects in Delaware County will move forward with state funding.

State Sen. Dominic Pileggi (R., Delaware) announced Tuesday that funding for the three projects would come from the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

Edgmont Township will receive about $215,000 to build its first municipal park and trail system near its township building. The project will include a boardwalk through a wetlands area and a playground.

Chadds Ford Township was awarded $100,000 to build a trail network among historic properties in the township that will connect to other walking trails on land owned by Peco and the Brandywine Conservancy.

In Upper Chichester, $110,000 will go toward restoring an eroded bank on a branch of Naamans Creek.

"These are exciting projects that will pay dividends for decades to come," Pileggi said in an announcement of the awards. - Laura McCrystal
