Tourism appears to be healthy

BENSALEM Tourism in Bucks County provided nearly $900 million in local economic impact in 2013, the county's tourism agency announced last week at its annual meeting.

The industry also supported nearly 12,000 jobs, the agency said, and generated about $122 million in federal, state, and local taxes.

Also at the meeting, the agency highlighted ongoing efforts to promote county destinations, with initiatives including a new online video series.

The agency said initial indicators show that 2014 could be a healthy year for tourism as well. Over the first eight months of the year, the agency reported, hotel occupancy was up 4.3 percent compared with the same time period in 2013, and hotel revenues were up 5.4 percent. - Chris Palmer
